GROWTH MINDSET

My red face post a 45 mins run, after waking up at 6:30 am. After being back from a 2 month family vacation (more on the effects of being gone that long coming soon), both waking up early and going on a long run are difficult and require I’m really stretching myself. I used to think my nature is to seek comfort (I believe I used to call myself the non-sporty, lacking motivation type of person) and that I’m a night owl. In the past few years I’ve shaken my own world, making some incremental and big changes, by educating myself on human nature, from all sorts of different angles, from positive psychology, health and wellness, to poetry and philosophy.

A midlife self education chapter. One of the things I learned is that we all seek authentic truth, and one of the ways to get there, which is not an intuitive one, is to stretch ourselves.

In order to even begin to do that, I realized one of my main blocks was my own self limiting set of beliefs, something that Stanford professor Carol Dweck calls #growthmindset. I was pretty surprised to realize I have a fixed mindset in some areas, including that I can’t exercise, I’m not the sporty type, or the determined type who could wake up early. Well, there isn’t such a thing.

Once we uncover and become aware of our set of beliefs we realize we’ve been trading ourselves unfairly. We do have determination, and all we wish for is without a doubt within our reach. It’s a matter of being curious about our own abilities and our own truth. When we’re kind and respectful with ourselves, we liberate ourselves, and the shy, naked #truth will come out. Our truth, our consciousness, the energetic power within us has always been wanting to come out
